PARENTS PAY ATTENTION: Netflix's new series, "13 Reasons Why"

Dear Middle Park High School Parents and Guardians;

Netflix's new series, 13 Reasons Why, is generating a lot of conversation in the press and in schools about youth suicide, rape, and other sensitive topics. We know that some of our students are watching the series, and many more have heard about the show.

We want to ensure that families are aware of the series and have access to information that may be helpful in talking about it with their pre-teens and teens. We’ve  attached handouts from the National Association of School Psychologists and SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education). Both handouts provide a little information about the series, guidance for adults, links to resources, and safe messages for students.

As always, our school counselors, Ben Polonowski and Jackie Schnellinger  are available if you would like to speak with them about your child specifically.

Sincerely,

Thom Schnellinger
